s/v TUNA

Tuna sitting at anchor off North Haven, Maine. She was sold in 2006 to make way for s/v Island Princess, but is missed by all who sailed her.

Tuna is a 1972 Pearson P-30, Hull #118. She's 29' 9.5"' on deck, has a 9' 6"' beam, displaces 8500lbs, and draws 5'.

Here are some specs on the P-30...for those so inclined.

She was first moored near Pemaquid Point on mid-coast Maine's Rutherford Island, and spent her winters at Bittersweet Landing Boatyard. She moved to her own mooring in Rockland Harbor in 2002.

Tuna Movie 2

Two movies of Tuna bashing her way south from Belfast to Rockland into a 20 knot wind! Click to watch movies taken by Suz and Eric Kohler aboard St. Somewhere, who weathered the same trip.

Same sail down east Penobscot Bay.  Photo also by  s/v St. Somewhere.

This is how she looked when I first met her. Found her in the Uncle Henry's, which will only mean something if you live in Maine.

This is the evening view from the cockpit.

Here's a panoramic view of our harbor from deck.

Inside she has all the comforts of home...in fact, she is our "waterfront summer home". Here are nieces Samantha and Madison doing artwork while underway in John's Bay.

The aft quarter berth, soon to be the Navigation Station. Both interiors were shot while still on land...updated shots soon.

As promised...here's an updated photo showing recent improvements. The navigation table is not only a great place to clamp down some charts, but reduces the number to collisions between my head and the radar screen!
Summer of 2002 in Rockland Harbor. Note "tuna" flag.

and finally...here's the skipper raising the Tuna Flag on the aft stay. Soon there'll be a radar mast in this shot!

The crew of s/v Solitude...the best friends a novice ocean sailor could have asked for during our first year in So Bristol.
Tuna and s/v St. Somewhere (Buffet fans understand!) at the Castine town dock. That's Eric and Suz getting directions from the harbormaster to Smith Cove, where we spent a wonderful couple of days exploring tidal water and surfing a whirlpool in our inflatables.
Click on the thumbnail to go to a gallery of photos from our cruise to Monhegan Island. Lots of good radar pics too!

For those who might be interested, here's a page devoted to my fine teacher and friend...a 1977 Cape Dory Typhoon named "Trio" that I sailed on Great Pond in Belgrade, ME for a short while.
